3 Ways to Make 2016 Your Gym’s Best Year Ever

Last Updated on Jul 26, 2017

It’s early January and every gym owner is living the high life right now. Membership is overflowing with all those New Year’s resolution members. As they say in the farming community, you need to make hay while the sun is shining.

However, as most gym owners already know, a lot of those NYE resolution members tend to stick around for a month or two and then slowly start disappearing until it’s just your regular gym members who are showing up. We were at FitnessTexter came up with these three simple ways to help make 2016 the best year ever for your gym or fitness business.

Attract More Clients by Adding New Fitness Classes

A simple way to make 2016 your best year ever is to add new fitness classes to your current class schedule. This could mean having a few of your trainers sign up for Zumba training or some other type of cardio workout class. If Zumba doesn’t fit with the theme or philosophy of your gym, think about adding a bootcamp to your current lineup. You can go to the corporate route and do something like Fit Body, or you can sit down with your trainers and create your own bootcamp. Figure you’ll need a solid 45 minutes of butt-kicking moves and then some good music to go along with it. You never know, your bootcamp might get so popular that you’ll want to start franchising it yourself.

Make it a Goal to Beautify Your Fitness Studio

Back when we were located in Miami Beach, we saw some very gorgeous fitness businesses. Brand new equipment, nice lighting, clean floors, clean mirrors, the works. However, we’ve also seen the kind of gyms that you wouldn’t want to show your friends. Dirty, loud, smelly, the works. Figure out which kind of gym you are and, if you’re in the dirty side, make it a point to improve. Add better lighting, make sure you have a daily mirror cleaning, put up signs to clean machines. There’s nothing more annoying than watching the grunting frat boy get up after his set and walk away from a bench that’s dripping in sweat. Just putting up simple signs will make people more away of their habits. Think about giving your gym a better paint job as well. There’s a lot of psychology of color and you might want to think about giving your interior paint a bit of an uplift. It’s the small things that make people like your gym. Every gym has free weights, benches, mirrors, etc. Take care of the small details and watch how happy your members become.

Develop Personal Relationships with Your Clients

Don’t think of your members as EFT numbers and drafting dates; think about them as hard-working people who are giving you their hard-earned money. Make them feel like their money is being well spent. Make it a point to make a Member’s Book. Simple headshots of all your members with their name. Study the book every once in a while. Learn faces and names. Then, the next time Tammy the accountant comes in, you can greet her by name, ask how work is going, etc. These small details will make your members feel like they’re being valued. It’ll pay dividends in the long run, trust us.
